In today’s fast-paced digital world, daily word games and epic storytelling apps like Lipi Inc’s Word Cruise are reshaping how we learn. In this exclusive Q&A with Sagar Anisingaraju, CEO & Founder of Lipi Epics & Word Games, we explore his journey, inspirations, and the mission behind blending Mahabharata, Ramayana, and modern EdTech.
1. What inspired you to create Lipi Epics & Word Games?
Growing up, I was always fascinated by the timeless stories and life lessons from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. During my technology and business career, I often applied these teachings in real-life situations. Yet, I noticed that global education rarely included these epics or the wisdom they carry.
I was also a passionate player of word games in English. But I realized that speakers of Indian languages lacked access to high-quality games in their native tongues. That was a missed opportunity—for fun and for language learning. Sensing this gap, I founded Lipi Epics as a social impact venture to gamify ancient wisdom and make native languages accessible and joyful for today’s learners.
2. How have your roots in Indian culture shaped Lipi’s vision?
My Telugu background and early exposure to epics—through books, storytelling, and traditions—deeply influenced Lipi’s vision. One of our core features is visual storytelling, inspired by the way elders explained complex stories simply and memorably. I wanted to recreate that family learning environment in a digital form.
We also solved a practical issue: typing in Indian languages. Many users struggle with complex scripts, so we built a phonetic keyboard to simplify text input. That idea came from both my cultural roots and my earlier work computerizing Indian Railways ticketing systems—where usability was key.
3. How does Lipi reflect your values as a parent and technologist?
As a parent, I want future generations to live by the values of Dharma, duty, and wisdom from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. Lipi is my way of passing on that timeless guidance in a relatable, modern format.
As a technologist, I’ve spent 25+ years applying AI and data in enterprise and life sciences. With Lipi, I use the same tools to make epics and language learning apps engaging for children and adults alike. For example, our Visual Guide is a knowledge graph connecting hundreds of characters, events, and places from the epics. This powers immersive storytelling and interactive games.
4. Which story or lesson from the epics resonates most with you?
Many epic stories resonate deeply, especially those about moral dilemmas and decision-making. Yudhishthira’s conflict around Dharma, Arjuna’s doubts in the Bhagavad Gita, and Bhishma’s wisdom in the Shanti Parva mirror modern challenges in leadership and life.
Through Lipi, users can explore these timeless lessons interactively, sparking reflection and practical learning. It’s about making ancient guidance relevant to today’s learners.
5. Can you share a user story that reminded you of your childhood?
Every day, we hear from users—teenagers to seniors—who find joy in learning epics or playing word games in their mother tongue. Some say they finally understand childhood stories; others are now passing that wisdom to their kids.
These moments remind me of my own childhood, when my family sat together to discuss the epics. Lipi has become a digital bridge that revives that tradition—something that feels deeply fulfilling.
6. Why do you see Lipi as more than just a startup?
India has gifted the world immense wisdom through its epics, values, and Dharma. I believe this heritage forms the core of our identity. With Lipi, my mission is to celebrate and preserve that heritage—while using technology and AI in EdTech to keep it alive for future generations.
It’s not just a business—it’s a platform where Mahabharata stories, Indian epics, and word games meet innovation, ensuring that these timeless lessons are remembered, understood, and lived.
